Paul Vallas, the former head of Chicago Public Schools is Gov. Pat Quinn's choice to be his running mate in next year's election. Vallas has never held elective office, but is no stranger to politics, having lost the Democratic nomination for Governor in 2002 to Rod Blagojevich.

In a statement, Quinn called Vallas "an independent problem solver with a proven record of reform."  Vallas, who's currently in Haiti where he does education work, said in a statement that he was "honored to join forces with the strongest reform governor in the country."
