Consolidated Communications recently awarded a grant for $2,300 to the Effingham Unit 40 Education Foundation.

Unit 40 Education Foundation Board President Laurie King said the foundation selects projects to fund in the district during October. Some of the past awards include funding for new musical instruments, smart boards and projectors, library books and technology. In addition, the foundation also funds scholarships for Health Occupations, Education, Fine Arts, Vocational and General Studies, she said.

“We appreciate Consolidated Communications support in our efforts to make education better in the Unit 40 schools,” she said.

Chris Niebrugge of Consolidated Communications made donation and said he’s glad to make the donation to the foundation in support of local schools.  “Our Earning for Learning grants are designed to support education in the communities we serve, and we’re pleased to award these funds to the Effingham Unit 40 Education Foundation to fund teacher grants and scholarships,” he said.

The EFL program has donated more than $3.2 million to local schools to use for teacher grants, computer and software purchase and other items and projects not included in typical school budgets. Participating schools are invited to submit a grant application to request funds for a specific financial need. Grants are approved based on the description of need and funds available at the time of the request.
