The Village of Teutopolis is getting ready to begin its 175th anniversary celebration, its Terquasquicentennial, if you will.

The year-long celebration for the village, which was established in 1839, will kickoff on Saturday, October 19 on the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus grounds.  It'll be an Oktoberfest celebration.

Activities will begin at 6pm.  The Waterloo German Band, featuring authentic German music, will play from 7 to 9pm.  At 9, you'll have the opportunity to meet the 150th Celebration Teutopolis First Ladies and Karen Brumleve, who is overseeing the First Lady effort, said the 125th Celebration First Lady might also be in attendance.

Brumleve knows whereof she speaks, in that she was a First Lady in the 150th Celebration.  She said her children, now adults, were very young then, but they still talk about the fun things they remember from the 150th Celebration.

The evening will conclude with music by the band, "Plastic Soul" at 9:30pm.

On the menu for Saturday: domestic beer, German beer and wine, brats, sauerkraut soup and pretzels and non-alcoholic beverages.  Various craft items including cookie jars bearing the Celebration logo will be available for purchase.

The proceeds from Saturday's event and subsequent activities throughout the year will benefit the Teutopolis Education Foundation and the Teutopolis Park District.

Advance ticket sales are being encouraged.  If you purchase a mug, you'll receive your wristband for free...a six-dollar savings.

Advance tickets are available from Hank Niebrugge at Country Financial, Jerry Runde at Teutopolis State Bank, and Jason Runde at First National Bank of Dieterich-Teutopolis branch.
