The Helen Matthes Library in Effingham is nearly a third of the way to its goal of raising $2 million towards the cost of remodeling the former Fifth Third Bank building into a new library for the Effingham community.

On Friday, October 4, at the Effingham Community Foundation banquet, the Helen Matthes Library was the recipient of three financial gifts: $5,000 from the Siemer Family Fund, $10,000 from the Community Foundation, and a $200,000 donation from the Dr. Rick and Angie Workman Family Fund.

Amanda McKay, Library Director stated, “We are very grateful for these donations which will go a long way towards making our move a reality. We have worked hard over the last few years to increase efficiencies and streamline services, such as introducing multiple self-check out stations. This along with the increased library space at the new library will allow us to provide more services that the community needs within our financial resources.”
