Businesses and homes on Effingham's south side, and those in some areas surrounding the city, were in the dark Tuesday afternoon for a little less than an hour.

Ameren Illinois' Victoria Bush said that a truck hit a guy wire along Veterans Drive.  The resulting interruption of service affected 457 customers in the Effingham area

The company had initially reported that service would be restored by 3pm. Workers fixed the issue well ahead of that estimate, getting the lights back on for all customers at 12:55pm.
