A Macon County coroner's jury has ruled the Independence Day shooting death of former Effingham resident Denise Robertson as a suicide.

Authorities found Denise Robertson outside her home in rural Moultrie County dead from a single gunshot wound.  Her husband Michael Robertson was found inside their home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Testimony at Wednesday's inquest into Denise Robertson's death indicated authorities do not believe anyone else was involved in the shootings.  Michael Robertson told authorities he was asleep at the time he was shot but was awakened by the gunshots and saw he had been shot.  He told authorities Denise Robertson was standing by his bed and then left the room without rendering any aid and then came back into the room and again left without giving him any aid.

Michael Robertson has been released from the hospital.
