Effingham Public Library board members agreed to proceed with a fee-based method for those who live outside the city limits, yet want a library card.
There were 526 non-resident library cards last year. The non-resident cards generated $30,000 in revenues.
The library board reviewed a facility assessment prepared by Civil Design on a capital improvement plan. The mortgage on the library building will be paid off by the end of the year, leaving library officials the option to consider long-term budgeting for any future projects.
Board members heard from McKay that the children's room expansion on the second floor of the library is still slated for early May, and is forecast to take six to eight weeks to complete.
