Brownstown school board members are moving ahead with a classroom addition.
Brownstown Superintendent David Lund said the six-classroom project will be located between the elementary and junior-senior high school buildings. The work will include an enclosed breezeway between the two buildings to keep students out of bad weather.
Lund is hopeful that they will break ground on the project in November or December, with a goal of having the classrooms ready for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Board Monday hired Fulk Construction to serve as construction manager for the project.
Also Monday, the Brownstown board filled a vacancy on the school board with the appointment of Josh Miller, and took action on several matters related to the high school gym. Those included hiring Allred's Floor Service to refinish the high school gym floor, the purchase of new scoreboards, shot clocks and scorer's table; the purchase of new lower bleachers; and hiring Montgomery Electric to install LED lighting.
Board members also approved non-renewal of a junior-senior high school teacher; approved a two-year contract with XT Solutions for IT maintenance services; renewed an intergovernmental agreement with SEPCO for various commodities for the coming school year; renewed membership for the coming school year in the IHSA; and adjusted officials' pay for the coming school year.
The Board also discussed maintenance help for the coming summer.
