Clay County authorities arrested a Flora man on charges that began with the alleged harassment of minors.
In late December, 43-year-old Michael Persinger was the subject of reports related to harassing minors by electronic means. During the investigation, a Clay County deputy was led to investigate possible violations related to the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.
In late February, Clay County State's Attorney Phillip Givens was presented the information obtained and he obtained a warrant for Persinger's arrest.
On Thursday, Flora police spotted Persinger, who was the subject of multiple Clay County warrants, on foot in Flora. Police attempted to stop Persinger and he fled on foot but was taken into custody two blocks away.
Persinger is being held in Clay County Jail on a count of unlawful failure of a sex offender to notify of a change of address, and a contempt warrant relating to previous offenses.
Clay County Sheriff's Office and Flora Police Department are continuing their investigation.
