Darrell Houchin has been hired as the next superintendent of the Cumberland Unit #77 School District.
Houchin will succeed the retiring Todd Butler as Cumberland superintendent. He will assume the post on July 1.
Houchin currently serves as principal of Richland County High School in Olney. He has worked for the Richland County school district for more than 20 years, and his wife also teaches in the district.
At the special meeting where Houchin was hired Wednesday, the Cumberland board also amended their policy concerning a la carte menu items on the lunch line. In the future, if the student's lunch cards shows a zero or negative balance, the student will not be allowed to purchase a la carte items.
Students will also need to show their lunch card at the beginning of the serving line, and the lunch clerk will inform the student if their lunch card balance prevents them for purchasing the a la carte item.
The Board also amended the guidelines to only record minutes of closed sessions on a district owned device, and the no other devices will be allowed to be used to record such minutes.
Cumberland board members also set the date for high school graduation for May 18 at 2pm.
