The Illinois unemployment rate for October rose to 5.2%, up from 4.5% one year earlier.
The Effingham County jobless rate for the month was 3.3%, up from 3.1% Total non-farm employment in the Effingham area increased by 375. Gains were seen in Leisure-Hospitality, Trade-Transportation-Utilities, Professional-Business Services, Construction, Other Services, and Government. Payrolls were unchanged in Natural Resources-Mining and Financial Activities. Job losses were seen in Manufacturing, Information, and Private Education-Health Services.
As far as area counties and their jobless rates for October:
Coles--4.1%, down from 4.2% one year earlier
Cumberland--3.3%, up from 3%
Shelby--4.2% down from 4.3%
Clay--5.1%, down from 5.4%
Fayette--4.4%, down from 4.5%
Jasper--4%, up from 3.8%.
