Periodically since the Effingham County Government Center opened in downtown Effingham, there's been a question as to why there isn't a flag in front of the building.

The question is finally being answered.

The County Board's Buildings and Grounds Committee Wednesday agreed to have a flag placed in front of the Government Center utilizing a flag holder on one of the new City street lights along Jefferson Avenue.

County Board Chairman Jim Niemann said Board member Karen Luchtefeld got the okay from City officials to use the street light.  Niemann said he plans to contact Congressman John Shimkus' office for a flag that has flown over the US Capitol as suitable to be used in front of the building.
