A delay has been granted in the start of the murder trial of Charles Yoder.

The 52-year-old Yoder is charged with stabbing Ted Debany to death with a knife on May 7 during an altercation in Effingham.

During a brief court appearance Tuesday morning, Effingham County Public Defender Scott Schmidt asked for a continuance in the case.  Schmidt took over Public Defender duties on July 1, so asked for additional time to get up to speed on Yoder's case.

Schmidt's motion was granted, and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for 11am on August 15 to consider any pending issues in the case.  Yoder's trial date was postponed from August 5 to September 3.

Yoder is being held without bond in Effingham County Jail.
