The first round of competition at the Illinois High School Rodeo Association State Finals is tonight.  The competition will begin at 7pm at the Effingham County Fairgrounds at Altamont.

One change from the past is a lack of mutton bustin' for the kids.  A lack of sheep caused the change.  Instead, there will be stick horse barrel races, boot scrambles and other games for the kids, set for 8pm.

There will again be some area competitors at the State Finals.  Those include Kelsi Haller of Effingham, Haley Mettendorf of Stewardson-Strasburg, Douglas Rich of Cowden-Herrick, and Jarret Summers of Beecher City.

Other rodeo competitors from the region include Keely Buhrmester of Shelbyville and Jesse Cox of Mattoon.

Other competitions will begin at 7pm Friday and at noon and 6pm Saturday.
