The Effingham County Board's Ambulance Oversight Committee Tuesday pledged to begin making inspections of the ambulance services in the county.

Committee Chairman Mike Depoister said he and Doug McCain are new to the County Board as well as to the committee and said the inspections would be helpful to their learning process.  Depoister said the inspections will be made to ensure the ambulance units are SAMIC and Illinois Department of Public Health equipped.  SAMIC is the agency in Illinois that oversees emergency service procedures in the medical community.

Depoister said the inspections will be random and unannounced to insure continuity of care.  He also said the beginning of inspections shouldn't be interpreted as that there is a problem with the service, only that they should be conducted, and now they will be.
