Altamont city council members have approved an interagency law enforcement agreement with the City of Effingham and Effingham County.

Under the agreement, the Effingham City Police Department, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office and the Altamont City Police Department will provide mutual assistance in certain situations.

The Altamont council also purchased a remote monitoring system for the city's wastewater treatment plants from Hydro-Kinetics for an amount not to exceed $44,000. The first thought was to purchase the system in phases, but the Council decided to purchase the system in its entirety, then install the system in phases. The Council also executed a contract with the Whistle Stop for financial help on a sewer replacement project. The City will pay up to 50% of the project cost for an amount not to exceed $4,000.

Council members authorized the sale of a parcel at 312A North 8th Street for $7,000 that was once part of a mobile home park. Also approved was a grant writing agreement with South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission for $35,000. The grant will cover administrative costs for water line replacement work along Main Street from Route 40 north to Jackson Street, as well as along 3rd and 4th Streets. Altamont received a $1.5 million grant to cover the project cost.

The Altamont council also approved a contract with S&K Concrete for sidewalk replacement along 3rd Street for just over $67,000 with the condition that required bonding is provided.
