A Unit 40 school district committee began work Tuesday on ways to enhance communication and marketing concerning the district.

Unit 40 board member Jill Wendling and Superintendent Andy Johnson met with a group of teachers, administrators and community members to decide goals. The committee is an outgrowth of a series of meetings held to develop a Strategic Plan for the school district. The overall goal is to get the word out about the strategic plan. Two items aimed at accomplishing that are Communication and Marketing.

Committee menbers agreed that there are good things in place to get the word out to parents and students, but that there are as many ways that word is being shared as there are school buildings in the district. Some cohesiveness could be pursued in sharing information.

As far as marketing, there was some discussion about hiring a firm, and the committee might decide to seek proposals from vendors to oversee the marketing strategy.

In the meantime, committee members also want to pursue better communication in-house so district faculty and staff are in the loop as to what is happening in the district.
