Effingham County 911 board members Tuesday discussed insurance coverage for the tower sites to be placed to improve communication between rural fire departments.

The effort is to insure that the sites have insurance coverage. There was discussion whether a blanket insurance plan will cover all eight sites. The insurance issue was prompted by discussion of a landowner tower agreement. System Administrator Tina Daniels will research the question of insurance coverage, then report back to the Board.

In her report, Daniels shared that state officials said 911 funds would not be swept by the State as is sometimes the case with funds collected by the State for use by other entities.

Also Tuesday, 911 board members agreed to cover the cost of 911 telecommunicators attending two upcoming conferences.

The Board also heard from past 911 board member Russ Thomas, who asked whether 911 would want to be represented at a Severe Weather Seminar to be held next month in Effingham. Thomas said at least 300 people could attend the seminar, to be held February 18th at Thelma Keller Convention Center. Admission will be free to the seminar, to be hosted by the National Trail Amateur Radio Club. The target audience will include ham radio operators, weather enthusiasts, first responders and CBers.
