Lake Land College trustees heard this month about a grant program designed to assist those studying in the healthcare field.

Erin Swingler, who serves as Allied Health Division Chair at Lake Land, spoke about the PATH grant. The $460,000 grant will benefit 13 students, who will be hired as employees. Their job? To study, as they work their way toward their degrees. Each student will work 15 hours a week, and will study during those hours.

There will be two primary areas of healthcare to be served. One is a bridge program from LPN to RN; the other is a bridge program from Basic EMT to Paramedic.

In addition to the work hours to study, the 13 students will get funding for their books and supplies, as well as a part-time Success Coach to help them work toward their goals.
