Veterans Weekend to be Part of Sigel Sesquicentennial

Plans are in place for a Veterans Weekend June 1-2 as part of the Village of Sigel's Sesquicentennial Celebration.

Saturday, June 1 activities will include A Civil War encampment and displays, frontiersman displays, a military history museum in the American Legion building, and a beer garden and food vendors all day, World War II re-enactments at noon, 3pm and 6pm, big band music in the evening to allow the opportunity to relive Sigel's Big Band Days while listening to the hits of the 30's and 40's, a bragging rights softball game at 7pm involving Neoga and Teutopolis alums who also graduated from Sigel to determine who's best, a trivia contest hosted by A. Lincoln at 8pm, and fireworks at 9pm.

Sunday, June 2 activities will include a veterans parade at noon open to area veterans, active duty military and re-enactors, featuring local marching bands, military vehicles and more from St. Michael's Church to the park, a memorial service at 12:30pm featuring Lincoln's recital of the Gettysburg Address, presentations by the American Legion, Father Bud and Reverend Fortkamp, and a 21-gun salute, frontiersmen displays all day and the military history museum in the Legion building all day.
