This is Rotary Week 2013, an effort by the Effingham Noon and Sunrise Rotary clubs to let you know what Rotary is and why people become Rotarians.
There are five avenues of Rotary service...New Generations, which is designed to attract young people to the organization, International Service, Vocational Service, Community Service and Club Service.
Club Service is being emphasized this year. As clubs, Rotary works together to raise funds for many endeavors, but the clubs also work to support activities through hands-on efforts.
The Noon and Sunrise clubs team up to sponsor the Society of Academic Achievement Banquet, held in April each year to honor the top five percent of sophomore, junior and senior class students at St. Anthony and Effingham high schools.
The Noon Club honors a graduating high school senior at Effingham and at St. Anthony High Schools each with a $1,000 scholarship.
The Sunrise and Noon clubs team up in May for a golf tournament designed to raise funds for Polio Plus and the battle to eradicate polio. This year's event is set for Friday, May 3 at Effingham Country Club.
One way Rotary is serving this Saturday will be the annual Rotary Pancake and Sausage Breakfast from 7-10am in the Hearts Rock Cafe at Effingham High School. Tickets will be available at the door at $5 for adults and $3 for children. Tickets are also available from Noon Rotarians. Proceeds will be used for various Rotary-helping activities.
