Jasper County board members Thursday awarded bids for the reconstruction of two bridges.

A.J. Walker Construction will serve as contractors on the projects, one for $121,000 in
North Muddy Township west of Muddy School and one for $109,000 in Smallwood Township one
quarter mile south of the Township Shed.

The Board also approved a bridge aid petition for $1,600 work on County Road 300 North in
Ste. Marie.  Board members discussed any liability for the County with students at the Optional Education Center in Willow Hill and discussed offering first aid classes to county employees.

Board members approved a contract with eCIVIS for $875/user for three years.  The City of
Newton, Jasper County, Jasper Unit 1 School District and Jasper Economic Development and
the Jasper County Health Department will all participate in the program for three years.

The Board granted permission for blue ribbons to be placed in trees on the Courthouse lawn
in Newton for National Autism Awareness Month and voted to allow a Sunday "jam" session at
this year's Strawberryfest in Newton.

Board members appointed Paul Johnson and Brian Ochs to three-year terms on the Wade Fire
Protection District.
