An Illinois Trooper is being called a hero today after he helped lift a car off a college student during Monday's snowstorm.

Authorities say with the help of two other people, Scott lifted a car that had rested on U-of-I student Ethan Asofsky along Interstate 57.

The News-Gazette in Champaign reports that Scott is a 300-pound former lineman who played for the University of Illinois football team in the late 1990s. After failing to lift the car on his own he enlisted the help of two other people and finally raised the car high enough for Asofsky's friend to pull him free.

Asofsky was treated at a Champaign hospital where he was listed in fair condition.
