Jasper County Board members discussed the latest on a proposed law enforcement center at this month's meeting.

The Board reviewed progress on design of the facility and learned that the Illinois Department of Corrections has approved the plan. The consensus was to seek bids on the project to learn what it would cost, then decide whether to get started on the work.

Board members voted to extend the Family First Coronavirus Response Act through the end of March to provide emergency paid sick leave and expanded family medical leave to eligible employees unable to work due to COVID-19.

The Jasper Board voted to appoint Dr. Ryan Jennings, Dr. Jillian Scherer and Mary Finley to three-year terms on the Board of Health; and to continue the Ambulance Department's dispatching contract with the Sheriff's Department for 2021.

There was discussion about a building to house EMA vehicles, and a 40-by-60-foot building was suggested that would be located at the highway department. The Board also voted to place the county materials tax on the ballot for renewal in April. The tax must be renewed every five years and pays for rock and oil maintenance on county roads.
