Sunny skies and a gentle breeze accompanied the 2020 Veterans Day observance in Effingham.
A good sized crowd attended the ceremony, which was hosted this year by Effingham VFW Post #1769.
(SGT. JEREMY DETERS)
Illinois Army National Guardsman Jeremy Deters of the 1644th Transportation Company of Paris served as guest speaker. Deters was pleased with the turnout at the ceremony in the midst of the pandemic, saying, "It would've been easy to take this one off and make it up next year."
When thinking about what Veterans Day means to a veteran, Sgt. Deters said he "thought of those he served alongside." He said they share "a bond forged by common experiences."
Deters said he was also mindful of how the service of veterans benefited not only Americans, but also those around the world.
