More Scam Calls About Debit Cards

More scam phone calls are being received by area residents. 

The calls were received by many individuals a couple of weeks ago, with the automated message indicating the person's debit card or credit card had been "locked down" and the personal information on the card was needed to restore the card to use.  The calls were bogus as someone was trying to get your information.

Today, Sandy Bernhard from Washington Savings Bank in Effingham let us know that a couple of their customers had received phone calls, "all zeros", telling those who answered the calls that their debit cards had been "locked down" and they needed personal information to restore the cards. 

Likewise, Rose Northway of First State Bank of Beecher City said several of their customers had received similar calls.  Northway said the bank would never call a customer to ask them to divulge personal information over the phone.

Bernhard agreed, saying the calls are bogus, and asked us to remind you that if you get such a call to simply hang up.
