The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced, weather permitting, road construction will begin on three sets of I-70 bridges just west of the Greenup Interchange. The work is to begin this week and will continue to the end of the year.

Intermittant lane closures will be required on I-70 and Illinois Route 121 after which traffic on I-70 will be reduced to one lane in each direction through late this fall. The other half of the work will begin next spring and will be completed by the end of 2014.

Work on this project will consist of replacing the bridge decks on the Embarras River bridges and the Illinois Route 121 bridges. The project also includes filling in and eliminating the bridges over the abandoned railroad.

Halverson Construction Company Inc. of Springfield is the prime contractor and Brent Bierman is the Resident Engineer for the Department of Transportation.

Questions concerning the project should be directed to Bierman at 217-923-6081 or Bob Utz at the Effingham Office at 217-342-3951.
