The man who drove his vehicle into Village Square Mall and broke into Zales Jewelers in 2018 has pleaded guilty.
25-year-old Jordan Johnston of Shelbyville pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of burglary for entering the Mall. Authorities at the time of the incident said Johnston used the vehicle he was driving to back into and through a mall entrance, then travel down two main hallways, then use the vehicle to break into the Zales store where an undetermined amount of merchandise was taken.
Johnston has been placed on two years of second chance probation, with the term running concurrently with the sentence imposed in a Shelby County case for residential burglary. Johnston also agreed to make restitution of $4,925 to the Mall for damage done. The amount of restitution Johnston owes Zales will be decided at a separate hearing. He was fined, must spend 114 days in jail, which has already been served as he is being given day-for-day credit for time already spent in custody, must complete 30 hours of community service, and was placed on 399 days' home confinement.
