The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Fayette and Marion counties until midnight tonight.

The warning issued by the Weather Service office in St. Louis is for heavy snow and sleet, and replaces the Winter Weather Advisory for that area.

Precipitation will continue this afternoon and become heavy at times during the day before tapering off tonight.  Precipitation will be mainly snow and sleet, mixed at times with freezing rain, and taper off as freezing drizzle during the evening.

Snow and sleet accumulation of two to five inches is expected, along with up to two-tenths of an inch of ice.  Winds are expected from the east at 10 to 20MPH with gusts up to 30MPH.

The Weather Service says snow and ice accumulations will have significant impacts on travel.  Icy may cause damage to trees and power lines.
