December Jobless Rate in Illinois at Historic Low

The Illinois unemployment rate in December was at 3.7%, a historic low.
The rate is down from 3.8% in November. Nonfarm payrolls added 8,000 jobs during the month.
The state jobless rate is higher than the national rate of 3.5%. The rate is down from 4.3% in December 2018.
The largest average gains in employment were seen in Educational and Health Services, up 2,900 jobs; Leisure and Hospitality, up 1,900; and Government, up 1,700.
Compared to a year ago, nonfarm payroll employment increased by 45,000 jobs.
