Teutopolis firefighters were out early Wednesday morning to handle a camper fire.

Firefighters were notified by Effingham County 911 just after 2am of the fire at the Donald and Mardell Buenker residence at 13322 N. 1525th Street.  The Buenkers told 911 that a camper was on fire behind their house by a pond.

Firefighters found the camper fully engulfed in flames, but had the fire under control within 15 minutes of arrival and then remained on scene to put out any remaining hot spots.  Firefighters were on scene for about an hour.

The camper is a total loss.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Effingham County sheriff's deputies assisted at the scene.
