A Clay County man has been arrested for alleging firing a shotgun during a dispute.

Illinois State Police troopers and Clay County sheriff's deputies responded to Ridge Road in northwestern Clay County at 5:20pm Friday after receiving a report of an individual discharging a firearm.  When they arrived, officers learned that 39-year-old Daniel Lee Cornwell of rural Hord had allegedly discharged the shotgun.

Authorities say Cornwell had fled the scene and was later arrested by State Police at 8:20pm Friday in Hord on a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.  Cornwell was taken to Clay County Jail in Louisville.  Additional charges may be filed by the Clay County State's Attorney.
