Local Man Sentenced to Jail for Discharging Firearm

51-year-old [name] of Effingham pleaded guilty to a lesser count of reckless conduct in exchange for dismissal of a count of reckless discharge of a firearm. The charges stemmed from an incident in October at [name]'s home.
Effingham County sheriff's deputies had been sent to [name]'s home in Lake Edward Estates due to reports from neighbors of several shots being fired. Deputies took [name] into custody and obtained a search warrant to recover several weapons from the house. Authorities noted the wooden frame of a door in the home had been damaged by a shotgun blast.
[Name] was sentenced to 90 days in Effingham County Jail. He was also placed on two years' probation. [Name] was ordered against being in possession of any firearms during his probationary period. A decision remains on what to do with the seized weapons.
