The Neoga Board of Education Thursday hired Bill Fritcher as the next district superintendent.

Fritcher will succeed Ben Johnson, who recently resigned to become superintendent of the Benton school district.

Fritcher brings 30 years of teaching and administrative experience in the Shelbyville, Effingham and Teutopolis school districts. He will be leaving the Teutopolis district, where he has served as superintendent for the past nine years.

It's a homecoming for Fritcher. He and his wife Julie live in Neoga, and their children attended Neoga schools. Hannah lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband Kendal. Their son, Evan, will be a sophomore at the University of Southern Indiana.

Fritcher's college degrees are all from Eastern Illinois University. He is a graduate of the Illinois Association of School Administrators' School for Advanced Leadership.

Fritcher stated, “I am honored to be selected for this position. Both of my children graduated from Neoga schools and have been well-prepared by an excellent staff. I look forward to working with them to provide all students with opportunities that prepare them for college or career.”

School Board President, Chuck Campbell stated, “Thanks to a team effort involving school staff, school board, students, and the community, Neoga Unit #3 has overcome significant financial obstacles in the past 5-7 years. We have begun adding back programs that were eliminated. It is our belief that Mr. Fritcher brings the experience, and a strong studentcentered approach, necessary to take our school district to the next level.”

Fritcher will begin his duties at Neoga on July 1.

Meanwhile, the Teutopolis district will begin its search for a new superintendent.
