Woman Found Dead in Local Motel Room

Authorities are investigating the death of a woman found in a local motel room.

Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes identified the woman as 38-year-old Felecia Gabbard of Rockford.

Rhodes said Effingham Police Department responded to a welfare check at approximately 11:30am Friday to Days Inn Motel at 1205 North Keller Drive. Officers found Gabbard dead in the room.

Effingham Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit, the Effingham County Coroner's Office, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit all assisted in the investigation.

Rhodes said there were numerous over-the-counter medications in the room. Gabbard was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham where an autopsy was conducted Friday afternoon. Toxicology results are pending.

The incident remains under investigation by the Effingham Police Department and the Effingham County Coroner's Office.
