Dieterich's Jackson Named Superintendent of Distinction

Cary Jackson, superintendent of Dieterich CUSD #30, has been named the 2019 Superintendent of Distinction by his colleagues in the Wabash Valley Region of the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA).

Jackson was honored at an awards luncheon May 9 in Springfield. State Superintendent Dr. Carmen Ayala was the featured speaker, where 21 IASA regional Superintendents of Distinction were recognized.

“I am truly thankful for this recognition, but it is the hard work, guidance and support of everyone at Dieterich Unit #30 that is being recognized,” said Jackson, who has been an educator for 18 years, including the last seven as superintendent at Dieterich CUSD #30. “I have been blessed with great leaders to emulate and wonderful students and staff to work alongside. That, coupled with the loving support of my wife and family, has made my career in education a wonderful ride.”

Those nominating Jackson noted a number of successes during his tenure including:

• Dieterich CUSD #30 was recognized by both US News & World Report and Niche.  
• Received the ISBE Bright Star Award for high achievement with low per-pupil costs.
• Both schools in the district were given an Exemplary rating from ISBE.
• Fostered relationships with students, staff and community members that have led to successes in the district.

“Each Superintendent of Distinction was nominated by peers in their regions based on their commitment, dedication and leadership,” said IASA Executive Director Dr. Brent Clark. “These extraordinary individuals truly provide exceptional leadership that elevates the success of students in their districts and are difference makers in their communities.”

The fifth annual luncheon was again sponsored by Horace Mann, one of the nation’s largest insurers focusing on the needs of educators.

“We are proud to recognize these Superintendents of Distinction who are creative, dedicated, inspiring, and consistently create strong learning environments in their districts,” said Marita Zuraitis, Horace Mann President and Chief Executive Officer.

Jackson and his wife, Dina, have two children.

The Wabash Valley Region is comprised of Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland, Lawrence, Edwards and Wabash counties.
