NAMI...the National Alliance for Mental Illness...has been honored with the latest grant from 100+ Women Who Care of Effingham County.

NAMI received a grant of $12,600. Local attorney Kaye Dent, who nominated NAMI, presented the check to NAMI representative Sue Heth.

NAMI is a mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Their mission is to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need. Any members not able to attend the 100+ gathering is invited to send their check, payable to NAMI, to Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, PO Box 1211, Effingham, IL 62401.

100+ Women Who Care of Effingham County is a group of women who meet three times each year. Each woman contributes $100 per meeting and the group gathered decide what organization will receive the funds. Those who are part of the organization also contribute another $100 to be used as an endowment to provide additional funding should the need arise.

The most recent event was held at the Thelma Keller Convention Center. Those who took along a guest competed in a drawing for a $50 VISA gift card donated by Dieterich Bank. Molly Steppe was the winner of the drawing.
