Every year the Central Illinois Effingham H.O.G. Chapter #1603 chooses a charity to support. In 2012 this local group of motorcyclists chose to support the Effingham County Salvation Army chapter.

The group held a poker run in conjunction with a silent auction, worked booths at the Kansas City BBQ Society Kick-off that was held at Legacy Harley-Davidson for two days last June, held a bike show at Culver’s and worked inside Culver’s after the bike show was over. The H.O.G. Chapter also has a wishing well set up at Legacy Harley-Davidson that people can throw their spare change into; the change is then donated to the Salvation Army.

Bob Fergus of the Salvation Army was invited to the H.O.G. Chapter’s monthly meeting recently.  Due to all of the efforts of its chapter members, Assistant Director/Charity Chairman Curt Thomas along with the rest of the H.O.G. Chapter’s Charity Committee was able to present a check to Fergus for the Salvation Army in the amount of $3,034.00. Fergus stated it is the largest single donation they have ever received and that it will be put to good use helping with people’s needs for meals, utilities and similar services that normally wouldn’t be met.

The H.O.G. Chapter has once again chosen the Salvation Army as their charity to support for the 2013 year.
