Details have been released on the crash in Shelby County late in December that resulted in the death of Teutopolis resident Kyle Houser.

Shelby County Sheriff Mike Miller Monday said the crash occurred at 6:08pm on December 20.  The crash happened along Illinois 128, about three miles north of the Bruce-Findlay Road.  Miller said the crash report indicates that the vehicle driven by the 25-year-old Houser was northbound while two other vehicles were traveling southbound.  Those units were driven by 40-year-old Toby Lynch of Shelbyville and 29-year-old Shannon Stewart of Beecher City.

Miller said the report states that Lynch attempted to pass Stewart and didn't see the oncoming Houser vehicle due to what the report terms a "blinding snowstorm".  The Houser and Lynch vehicles collided head-on.  The impact caused Houser's vehicle to spin and it was then struck in the driver's side by the Stewart vehicle.

Houser was first taken to Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville for treatment and then was transferred to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield where he died of his injuries at 12:38pm on Friday, December 28.

Miller said the report indicates that neither Lynch nor Stewart was injured in the crash, and that there were no passengers in any of the three vehicles.  Lynch was cited for improper overtaking on the left.
