Sheriff's Deputies Handle Two Friday Crashes

Effingham County Sheriff's Department handled two crashes involving injuries Friday.

One crash occurred in Mason Township at 9pm. The crash happened at 5116 North 950th Street, roughly two miles north of Mason.

Deputies report a car driven by 28-year-old Jacob Shelton of Effingham was northbound when Shelton lost control of the vehicle. The unit ran off the roadway and struck a grain bin, causing the bin to move off its foundation.

Shelton was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Shelton was cited for DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

The other Friday crash occurred just after 10pm on Illinois Route 37, a quarter-mile south of 400th Avenue in Mason Township.

Deputies report a pickup truck driven by 24-year-old Jesse Barnes of Effingham was northbound when Barnes lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle ran off the west side of the highway and struck a deep ditch, causing the vehicle to roll over.

Barnes was injured and was transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Barnes was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
