Cowden-Herrick Superintendent of Schools Darrell Gordon is retiring from education...he thinks.

Gordon's resignation as superintendent was accepted by the Cowden-Herrick school board at this month's meeting, effective June 30. He said his daughter lives out-of-state so this will make it easier to spend time with her and her family.

He did admit, though, that if he got the right offer, retirement might be put off a while longer.

Gordon got into education later in life. He worked at World Color Press in Effingham until a wave of layoffs led him to return to school. He began teaching at Stewardson-Strasburg in the 1999-2000 school year, freezing at softball games while helping then-Comet coach Kyle Knop. After seven years at Stew-Stras, Gordon became high school principal at South Central before taking the superintendent's position at Cowden-Herrick.
