An Accident on Interstate 70 Near Vandalia Left Two Injured

State Police indicate at 4:10 Saturday afternoon a car driven by Alivia L. Drew, 19, of Champaign was traveling westbound in the passing lane on Interstate 70 near milepost 63. A semi operated by Rajinder Singh, 31, of Fresno, California was traveling westbound in the right lane at the same location.

The car went off the roadway to the left and went down into the grass of the center median, then re-entered the roadway, crossed the passing lane, and struck the driver's side rear tire on the trailer being pulled by semi.  After striking the tire on the trailer the car overturned onto its top and came to a stop facing north in the passing lane.  

Drew and passenger, James L. Buford, 23, of Rantoul, were transported to Fayette County Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Drew was charged with Improper Lane Usage, Failure To Reduce Speed To Avoid an Accident, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol by Driver, Depositing Material on Highway (littering), Operating Uninsured Vehicle, and Obstructing an Officer.

Buford was charged with Illegal Transportation of Alcohol.
