Jasper County board members discussed various activities at this month's meeting.

Sheriff Rick Britton discussed a desire to hire another full-time dispatcher due to costs the department is incurring for overtime.

The Board approved its share of the cost of a bridge repair in Smallwood Township on the Jasper-Richland county line. The cost will be split four ways between the two affected counties and the two affected townships. The bridge is on 1000 East at 250 North. The Board also selected Cummins Engineering to do design work on the HSIP guardrail project.

It was decided to appoint a committee to oversee allocation of gaming funds. The committee members are board members Jason Warfel, Ron Swick and Mike Hall, as well as Newton Community High School Principal Beth Probst and Jeannine Johnson of Jasper County Health Department.

The Board also decided to approve three judges for each precinct in the March primary, named Jennings, Atwood and Finley to three-year terms on the Board of Health, approved a new server for the tax system through SDS in Effingham for $10,000 plus labor, approved an updated agreement with Pictometry for additional flyovers of property  to help with the assessment process, and approved a consumer electronics recycling act the County needed to opt into by March 1. The County's share of the cost of the project will be loading the truck. Disposal costs will be paid by the manufacturers of electronic products.
