Effingham firefighters were called to a vehicle fire just before 8am Friday.

The fire was in a car owned by Ralph Elkins, who told firefighters he saw some smoke coming from the vehicle when he arrived home. When he raised the hood, the fire grew in intensity.

Firefighters responded to the parking area behind Elkins' residence at 413 W. St. Anthony. Fire Captain Jim Charters said the car is a total loss.

One firefighter suffered a back injury, but there were no other injuries.

Charters said the cause of the fire is undetermined. Firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
