Effingham city police are investigating reports of counterfeit $20 bills being found in town.

City Police Chief Jeff Fuesting said the bills were discovered last week at various businesses. Fuesting said the bills are smaller than a normal bill and are marking black when a pen is used on them. The bills are never of newer variety, will have no strip on them, and are "funny" to the touch.

The chief suggested comparing a suspicious bill to one you know is valid to help determine its validity.
