Effingham County Treasurer Steve Dasenbrock says his office collected $1,849,257.06 in the last week of 2017.

Dasenbrock said the payments of 2017 payable 2018 real estate tax were collected due to the change in the federal income tax law regarding the standard deduction versus itemized deductions. The pre-payments were made toward 370 individual parcels.

Dasenbrock reminds the County Treasurer's office has a monthly pre-payment program now in its ninth year supervised by Chief Deputy Paula Miller. The program was used to record the pre-payments received.

Once the 2017 payable 2018 tax bills are calculated, the pre-payments will be applied and the taxpayers will be billed for the balance due.
