A van and SUV collided Monday evening in Fayette County, injuring one person.

State police report the crash occurred at 5:37pm on US Route 40 in Bluff City. The SUV driven by 40-year-old Danny Spencer Hurrenn of Vandalia was headed west behind the van driven by 50-year-old Richard Matlock of Effingham. Matlock had his flashers on and an oscillating amber light on top of his vehicle. Matlock had stopped to deliver mail and was just starting to merge back into traffic at a low speed when the Hurrenn vehicle sideswiped the Matlock van.

Matlock was injured and was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia. Police cited Hurrenn for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
