A Greenup resident has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to an armed robbery earlier this year.

68-year-old David Croy robbed the Dollar General store in Greenup on March 22. Croy was apprehended shortly after the holdup.

In May, a defense request was filed to have Croy examined as to his fitness to stand trial and assist in his defense. Psychologist Dr. Jerry Boyd reported that Croy was fit.

In court Monday, Croy was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The sentencing possibilities ranged from six to 30 years in prison.

Cumberland County State's Attorney Bryan Robbins said Dr. Boyd's report indicated Croy is dealing with mental illness, but not enough to be unfit. Robbins said Croy would be eligible for mental health treatment while incarcerated.
