Butler Named Next Cumberland Superintendent

Todd Butler has been selected to serve as the next superintendent of Cumberland District 77 schools.

A Cumberland High School graduate, Butler was tapped at a special Board meeting to succeed Russell Ragon when Ragon leaves at the end of this school year.  Ragon will become superintendent of the school district at Manhattan, Illinois, near Joliet.

Butler is a 1987 Cumberland graduate and currently serves as principal of Cumberland Elementary School.  He recently resigned after 13 seasons as varsity football coach at Cumberland, becoming the first Pirate coach to finish his career with a winning record and taking Cumberland to the high school playoffs seven times.  The school had never made the playoffs prior to Butler's tenure as coach.  Butler's teams finished over .500 eight times.  Prior to his tenure, the team had finished above .500 just eight times since the program began in 1962.

Butler's selection is contingent on his successful completion of the specialist degree in education.  The vote to hire Butler was unanimous.
