The Effingham County Board Monday voted to extend the hours for liquor sales on Sunday.

Board Chairman Jim Niemann said sales will now begin at 6am rather than noon on Sundays. Niemann said the change brings the County into conformity with neighboring jurisdictions.

After a brief closed session to update Board members, Niemann reported that there was no news regarding finalizing an agreement regarding ambulance service in the county. The plan is for Altamont Ambulance and Effingham City-County Ambulance Service to maintain service until Abbott Ambulance takes over operation under a five-year agreement.

The Board appointed five people as fire district trustees; Alan Davis at Watson, Dan Roedl at Altamont, Michael Bowman at Edgewood Bi-County, Robert Hoene at Sigel, and Paul Niemerg at Dieterich. Also approved was a bridge aid petition for replacement of a culvert on 1500th Avenue, east of Teutopolis.

Board members approved two items related to the county public transportation system; the budget for the University of Illinois Extension for the fiscal year beginning July 1 was approved for $94,000; and a resolution was passed designating Thursday, May 4 at Law Day for 2017 when county high schoolers assume leadership for a day in county government.

The Board also amended the county fiscal year budget to accommodate $14,800 in grant funds received by the Circuit Clerk's office; and learned that a reception is planned in May to bid CEFS Economic Opportunity Corporation Executive Director Paul White farewell after 39 years' service. County Board member Karen Luchtefeld reported that three programs overseen by CEFS (weatherization, LIHEAP, and RSVP) have a zero funding line item in the proposed federal budget.
